🐾 Variegated Bear’s Paw Care (8.5 cm Pot)

☀️ Light

Very bright light is key.

  • Best: south or west window in the UK
  • A bit of gentle direct sun is actually good
  • Too little light = stretched growth + weaker variegation

If it’s reaching, it wants more sun.

💧 Water

This is where most people slip up.

  • Water only when soil is completely dry
  • In an 8 cm pot: usually every 2–3 weeks, less in winter
  • Water thoroughly, then let it drain fully

🚫 Never small sips. 🚫 Never soggy soil.

Wrinkled leaves = thirsty

Mushy leaves = overwatered (danger zone)

🌵 Soil

Fast-draining is non-optional.

  • Cactus/succulent mix plus extra grit or perlite
  • Pot must have drainage

Variegated forms rot faster — they’re less vigorous.

🌡 Temperature

  • Happy between 15–25°C
  • Keep above 10°C
  • Protect from cold windowsills in Scottish winters

🌬️ Humidity

Low to normal home humidity is perfect.

  • No misting
  • Good airflow helps prevent rot

🌿 Feeding

  • Feed once a month max in spring & summer
  • Use a diluted cactus fertiliser
  • Do not feed in winter

Overfeeding = weak, floppy growth.

✂️ Growth & Maintenance

  • Slow grower (especially variegated)
  • Don’t rush repotting — they like being snug
  • Repot only when roots are really circling (likely not yet in an 8 cm)

If any leaf turns fully green, remove it to protect the variegation.
