🐾 Variegated Bear’s Paw Care (8.5 cm Pot)
☀️ Light
Very bright light is key.
- Best: south or west window in the UK
- A bit of gentle direct sun is actually good
- Too little light = stretched growth + weaker variegation
If it’s reaching, it wants more sun.
💧 Water
This is where most people slip up.
- Water only when soil is completely dry
- In an 8 cm pot: usually every 2–3 weeks, less in winter
- Water thoroughly, then let it drain fully
🚫 Never small sips. 🚫 Never soggy soil.
Wrinkled leaves = thirsty
Mushy leaves = overwatered (danger zone)
🌵 Soil
Fast-draining is non-optional.
- Cactus/succulent mix plus extra grit or perlite
- Pot must have drainage
Variegated forms rot faster — they’re less vigorous.
🌡 Temperature
- Happy between 15–25°C
- Keep above 10°C
- Protect from cold windowsills in Scottish winters
🌬️ Humidity
Low to normal home humidity is perfect.
- No misting
- Good airflow helps prevent rot
🌿 Feeding
- Feed once a month max in spring & summer
- Use a diluted cactus fertiliser
- Do not feed in winter
Overfeeding = weak, floppy growth.
✂️ Growth & Maintenance
- Slow grower (especially variegated)
- Don’t rush repotting — they like being snug
- Repot only when roots are really circling (likely not yet in an 8 cm)
If any leaf turns fully green, remove it to protect the variegation.
